On the 10th of Janury, 1860, seven years after construction, the Pemberton
Mill in Lawrence Mass suddenly collapsed. Of 900 trapped workers, 88
died, 275 were injured.
Not a moment's warning, I presume,
Of their impending, awful doom;
The Pemberton Mills came tumbling down
With souls five hundred to the ground.
