1/25/1838: The Glasgow Cotton Spinners trial ends, sentencing the union
leader-ship to 7 years' transportation. The crime was "being leaders of
an association engaged in illegal activities" (picketing.)
When first we were arrested, and lodged in Glasgow gaol,
They stripped us of our clothing, left us naked in our cell;
No synpathy they shewed to us, no not the leasy ava',
Because we were united men in Caledonia.
