Happy Birthday!
In Kosciusko, Miss
on 1/31/44 was born
Charlie Musselwhite
"Harmonica player and vocalist Musselwhite was one of the first non-black
blues artists to interpret the richly emotive harp styles of Little
Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, and other great blues harp players. A Native
American of Choctaw ancestry, Musselwhite, like Paul Butterfield, proved
that nonblack players could make a contribution to the form."

I agree with this. Pete Welding (anybody know where he can be reached?)
introduced me to Charlie and to the blues scene in past Chicago days. I
had the wonderful opportunity to learn something of Chicago Blues & used
to hang out a little with Charlie. I'd be in a club that hadn't seen a
white face in long enough for the music to stop in surprise when one came
in. But Charlie would come in (or Mike Bloomfield or Erwin Helfer, come
to that) & was not only welcome, but urged to come up to the band and sit
in. And he did good. Still does.
