Anti-vice crusader Anthony Comstock [1844-1915], of 1872 Comstock Law fame,
approaches a reputed New York abortionist who has a luxurious mansion at 657
Fifth Avenue (52nd Street). Hiding his identity, he says he is desperately poor and
will be ruined if his wife has another child. English-born brothel-keeper Anna A.
Trow Somers Lohman, 65, alias Mme. Restell, supplies Comstock with drugs and
contraceptives. He has her indicted and refuses a $40,000 offer to drop his charges,
Mme. Restell posts bail and returns to her house, newspaper stories convince her
that she will be convicted, and she slits her throat in her bathtub 4/1/1878.
North Dakota: Retailers may open on Sunday; last US Blue law repealed, 2/10/1991.
(Well, that's the report. We don't really believe it's the last but can't verify one way
or the other...we'd like to believe it.)
Well, it's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.
Yes, it's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.

It's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.
It's a shame to get drunk on Sunday.

"It's A Shame To Whip Your Wife On Sunday,"
Recorded by the New Lost City Ramblers & Leadbelly
We consider Comstock, Bryan & their prior & current ilk to be among the
greatest evils of America. The repressive imposition of a specific culture-blind &
limited morality on all in the population. This is moral enslavement (at best) under the
guise of raising the standards of the society. Most of these crusaders proved
themselves hypocrites, liars, vicious and heartless. Criminals can be caught &
sanctioned - moral crusaders are more likely to be financially enriched.
[Please accept humble apology for the moralizing - We get carried away.]
