Happy Birthday!
In NYC
Tom Lehrer
was born 4/9/1928
He has not quit living but did quit performing, saying, "Political satire became
redundant the day Henry Kissenger won the nobel Peace Prize."
In Lehrer's 1953 idionymous 10-inch record, his notes describe his occupation
as a relatively unsuccessful purveyor of optional
pharmaceuticals to local school children. Supplementally, he would have to
roll the occasional drunk.
When the shades of night are falling,
Comes a fellow everyone knows.
It's the old dope peddler,
Spreading joy wherever he goes.
Every evening you will find him,
Around our neighborhood.
It's the old dope peddler
Doing well by doing good.
