10/2/1780: Major John André (bMay 2,1750) hanged as a spy. He was caught
in civilian clothing with the plans for West Point fort hidden in his
boot. They'd been given him by Benedict Arnold.
The story came to Arnold
Commanding at the fort:
He called for the Vulture
And sailed for New York;
Now Arnold to New York has gone,
A-fighting for his king,
And left poor Major André
On the gallows for to swing.
